Go By Bike Day will be held nationally on Wednesday 17 February 2010.
Go By Bike Day is a great opportunity to increase the visibility of cycling as a sustainable, safe and enjoyable form of transport. The day rewards existing cyclists as well as increases the visibility of safe cycling as a valid mode of transport. New Zealanders are encouraged to ditch vehicular transport and take their bike instead! Go By Bike Day events are organised by a variety of stakeholders such as local and regional councils, regional sports trusts, cycle groups and other organisations with an interest in cycling. Communities are encouraged to cycle down to their local Go By Bike Day event and enjoy a healthy breakfast, entertainment and celebrate the positive outcomes of more people cycling more often. In 2009, Go By Bike Day events took place in 57 centres throughout New Zealand.
Go By Bike Day registrations will be open from 9th November 2009 to 11 December 2009. A link will be provided from this site for electronic registration.
For 2010 official Go By Bike Day events we will provide coordinators with supermarket vouchers so that they can purchase their own breakfast products. The Ministry of Health will be providing some guidelines for healthy breakfast options.
Please note that breakfast foods are not available for general events such as those held at workplaces and schools. For more information, see 'Incentives - eligibility criteria' below.
Everyone who organises an official Go By Bike Day event will receive a coordinator’s kit containing promotional resources and items to be used as prizes or given away to participants on the day:
